Details

Four miles east of Wareham, Higher Hyde Heath is an internationally important area of dry and wet lowland heathland and woodland within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This nature reserve is home to all six of the UK’s native reptiles and rich and varied flora and fauna such as silver studded blue and grayling butterflies, sand lizards, Dartford warbler, emperor
dragonfly, sundew, butterwort and early marsh orchid.

There is a small car park with an information panel. From the car park, self-guided walking trails cross the nature reserve and there is a bird hide overlooking the pond which visitors are welcome to use.
