A few miles outside Wareham, you will find this wonderful nature reserve managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust.
Kilwood is the inspiring result of years of natural regeneration of the birch and oak woodland which is now home to dormice as well as great crested newts in the deep ponds and 18 species of dragonflies. Throughout the summer, the two damp meadows are filled with wildflower and butterflies.
There are walking trails through Kilwood. Alternatively see the map for a five kilometre circular walk starting at the entrance to Kilwood nature reserve, up onto the Purbeck Way and back down through Stonehill Down Nature Reserve.
Free entry and roadside parking: There is limited roadside parking at the reserve – please park carefully.
