Purbeck Safari Tours in Dorset

Details

Purbeck Safari is a family run business whose aim is to enable you to access and experience the beauty, magic and wildlife of this amazing area in a unique way. Join us as we take you on safari across the heaths, harbour and hills in our Land Rover Defender.

Unique Way to Explore and Accessible Alternative!

Purbeck Safari offers a really unique way to explore the beautiful landscape of Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck and provides a more accessible alternative for those who are less mobile, with the opportunity to encounter, up close, some of its amazing wildlife. We offer 4×4 driving tours over a variety of routes in our 7-seat Land Rover Defender.

We travel across the rare lowland heaths, through part of the National Nature Reserve, with privileged access through the Wytch Farm oilfields and around the secluded shoreline of the southern harbour. Travelling off-road over the high ridges you’ll have panoramic views right across Purbeck, incorporating Corfe Castle and the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline.

The safaris provide you with a really accessible way of encountering the best that Purbeck has to offer in the space of a morning or afternoon, discovering something of the geology, people, fauna and flora that make this landscape so special. Every safari will bring something fresh and surprising as you encounter the wildlife and plantlife which inhabit the area and which changes through the seasons and where you can learn a little of the history of those who have lived and worked in the Isle of Purbeck and helped shape it.

As we travel across open farmland you’ll encounter different breeds of sheep, cattle, ponies and pigs as well as the chance to see sika and roe deer, or catch a sighting of one of Purbeck’s many rare birds of prey, from Hobbies to Osprey and even the possibility of a White Tailed Sea Eagle as well as the amazing array of waders and sea-birds that live and breed around Poole Harbour. The heaths and hills are home to some rare and beautiful plants and in the summer months there can be fabulous displays of orchids and the accompanying butterflies that thrive in this varied landscape.
